Henry John Wielders, Jr., "Hank," passed away at the age of 80 at his home in Houston, Texas, after a prolonged illness on the morning of March 4, 2013. He was born on October 8, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only child to Henry John Wielders, Sr. and Marie Grondel Wielders. He graduated from Granite High School in 1950. Henry served in the
from 1950 to 1954. He was on the U.S.S. Thompson during the
, where he was known as "Dutch" to his crew mates. He married Lois June Anderson on March 3, 1955. He attended DeVry University in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated as an Electronics Technician. Henry worked at Mare Island Naval Base in Vallejo, California, on the Polaris Submarine in the 1960's. He worked for many years at Varian Eimac in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had many friends, and retired in 1991. He has lived in Utah, California, Oregon and Texas. Henry is survived by his wife, Lois, of 58 years, his daughter, Michelle Cassity (Gus), his son, Christopher John Wielders (Maria), his granddaughters, Emily Lankford (Brad), Samantha Hogenson, Avery Wielders, Sara Montoya and Olivia Montoya, and grandson, Sam Montoya, great-grandchildren Haley, Braden "Champ," Addi, Ella, and Lennon, brother- and sister-in-law, Dee and Valeria Anderson, nephews Doug Anderson, Craig Reisch, and nieces Candy Bakken (Barry) and Dee Dee Parks (Jason), and several great-nieces and nephews, and his good friend and crew mate, "Sparky." He was a kind and loving man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. A Celebration of Life Service for those who loved Hank will be held at his daughter's home in Houston.
