Lottyann Kehaulani Rowland Obituary
1946 ~ 2013
Lottyann passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2013. She was born July 7, 1946 to Lottie and James Oliver Curwood Talkington in Honolulu Hawaii, where she grew up and learned her love for music. She played the organ in church at a young age while her mother conducted. She graduated from Kalani High School in 1964 and attended a clerical program through the University of Hawaii Community College.
Lottyann moved to Utah where she met her lifelong friend and adopted sister DeLoa Keenan whom she shared years of story telling, jokes and laughter. She moved her family to Bountiful, Utah which quickly became home due to the wonderful community and people that comprised it. She flourished in the Barton Creek Ward where she shared her talents of sewing and crafts, as well as her musical talent by fulfilling her calling as the ward organist for several years. Lottyann also played the organ at the Bountiful Temple on a regular basis. She loved bringing the spirit there through her music.
Lottyann spent many years working at JCPenney where she retired in Dec. 2005.
She loved making things beautiful, loved sharing her gift of playing the piano and organ, gardening and had a gift of making anything grow. She loved sewing, wood work and any kind of arts and crafts. She spent years making things for her children from lunch bags, doll houses, furniture, quilts, clothing……anything they wanted. Lottyann was also a wonderful cook and was frequently bombarded with requests by her children to cook their favorite meals because "no one cooked them like mom did." She was creative and had a knack for pulling together basic items whether it be ingredients, fabrics, or crafts and turning them into something beautiful that she could share with her family.
Lottyann met the love of her life Richard Rowland in 2005 and they were married in July 2006 and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in Nov. 2007. They started their life together in West Point, Utah where they built a successful business, (Thick & Green Lawn Spraying Company) working hand in hand together. They loved their family and enjoyed spending time with all of them. They got a kick out of pulling pranks, especially Rick, and Lottyann always laughed so hard when they fell for it. The time they spent together was the happiest and best years of her life. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching football and especially loved camping in their RV and spending months together just the two of them and their dogs Kai and Buddy.
Lottyann is preceded in death by her mother Lottie Talkington, father, James Talkington, brothers, Charles K. Kahaunaele, Joseph L. Kahaunaele and Alfred J. Kahaunaele. She is survived by her brother John Jensen of Cerritos California, sister Julina Lung of Honolulu Hawaii, husband Richard and six children Kevin Vasconcellos, Kimberly Martinez, Nichole Reddish (Bret Nilson), Patrick Reddish (Shyloh Sturm), Timothy Whetman (Angie) and Jayme Sayes. She was also blessed with four stepchildren Sandy Rose (Travis), Teresa Beardall (Barry), Trevor Rowland (Autumn), Derrick Rowland (Keturah), 31 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family wants to express their gratitude for the loving care that was provided by all of the Hospice staff, especially Kristy Burnett her nurse who took such good care of her.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Barton Creek Ward 640 S. 750 E. Bountiful, Utah at 11:00 am, a viewing will be held at the same location from 9:30 to 10:45. Another viewing will be held Friday, September 13, 2013 at Lakeview Mortuary 1640 E. Lakeview Dr., Bountiful, Utah from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
We will all miss her bright smile and contagious laugh.
