Boyd Degn Obituary

"Poppy"
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Boyd S. Degn returned to be with his Father in Heaven on April 29, 2014. He passed away peacefully in his home, with family near him. Boyd was born in Price, Utah on his mother's birthday, October 13, 1927 to Hans Peter and Ellen Stokes Degn. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State College until the beginning of World War II. He enlisted in the Naval Air Force and served proudly as an Aviation Radioman from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1947. He met his sweetheart, E. Mae Pasch, while in Walther League together. They married on October 8, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogden, Utah. He was an active member at St. Paul's, and later at Christ Lutheran in Murray, Utah, where he faithfully served many years on the Board of Elders and as President of the congregation. Boyd began his career in his father-in-law's business, Pasch Paint and Hardware. He moved later into sales and then founded his own business, Whiteoaks, Ltd., and worked as an independent manufacturer's representative. His friendly, positive personality brought him success not only in his business, but continually drew people to him in all areas of his life. He volunteered with the Ogden JC's. For over 40 years, Boyd was active in Pot and Kettle International and served as International President. In earlier years, he and Mae enjoyed skiing and boating together as well as extensive traveling. Boyd loved working in his yard and took great pride in making sure that the yard was always in tiptop shape. Some of the greatest joys of his life came with the births of his grandchildren and later, great-grandchildren who always knew that Poppy was ready with a smile and a hug.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mae Degn; children: Stephen and Connie of Midvale; Mike and Janet of Aurora, Colorado; seven grandchildren and seven great-granchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and one son, Peter Degn, who has joyfully welcomed his Dad to heaven.
Boyd selflessly donated his body to the University of Utah Body Donor Program.
Sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living and to Bright On! Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Boyd's name to Christ Lutheran School at 240 East 5600 South, Murray, UT 84107.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, May 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 240 East 5600 South, Murray with a light luncheon after to allow friends and family to gather.
