Richard Aegerter Obituary

1923 ~ 2014
Richard (Dick) Edward Aegerter passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington, Virginia on October 28, 2014.
Dick was born June 15, 1923 in Montpelier, Idaho, the youngest child of Marie Kohler and Johann Friedrich Aegerter. He graduated from Ririe High School and received his bachelor's degree from USU and graduated from the law school at George Washington University. He worked as an attorney for nearly 35 years at the U. S. Patent Office.
Dick married Joyce Parrish on July 6, 1973 in the Logan Temple. Joyce richly blessed Dick's life and they accomplished many good things in their lives together, including genealogical work for his family back to the 1500s. Joyce passed away on April 27, 2003.
Dick was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith in the Savior provided great comfort and peace to him. Through the years, he served in many church callings. He worked in the Washington, D. C. Temple for nearly 40 years. He began serving as a sealer in 1986. He found great joy in his service there. He and Joyce also served a mission to the Chicago, Illinois Temple.
He is survived by his sisters, Vesta Bell and Esther Wenz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce along with his parents and his sisters Gertie, Mae, Hettie, and Margie and his brothers, LeRoy and John.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends and family may call two hours before the services. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dick's nieces; Kim Parrish Auch, Kristin Parrish Corey, and Katie Parrish Ball and their families for their love and care of Dick, along with Rene' and Jeff Johnson and their family and the wonderful members of the Arlington 1st and 2nd Wards for their friendship, goodness, and many kindnesses through the years.

Richard and I were friends for 50 years and his wife Joyce and I were roommates before she married him. We had great times together in the DC area. They're both missed but I'm sure they're are happy together.

Dick was a true friend and brother as we lived together in theHouse of Ushers during the early 60s, both attended Washington Ward as singles, and both worked at the U.S. Patent Office. He was always someone I could go to for advice and help as I worked my way through G.W, Law School. He was definitely a role model and a stabilizing influence when we lived together. I enjoyed running in to him in the temple and at BYU Education Week form time to time. He will be missed, but I am sure that he is receiving a great welcome from Joyce and the many that he has served in his temple and family history work over the years. I have great memories of the years living with Dick and the other roommates.

Dick was a valued and outstanding member of the senior staff at the Patent and Trademark Office. He was not only very competent at his craft, but always willing to help others. He was a shining example to his fellow employees and was respected by all. Don and I were happy to have worked with him. Our sincere sympathy to his family.

Dick Aegerter was a part of our lives from first landing in Washington DC, for Brent in the mid-60s and for Kathryn in 1969. Dick ran the "House of Usher", consisting of 4 or 5 single guys and Dick ran a tight ship! He was a wonderful stabilizing influence in the Washington Singles Ward for many years and we were all thrilled when Joyce Parrish came along and convinced Dick he needed to marry her. And a great marriage it was. Dick was a great guy and we are happy he is now reunited with Joyce and the rest of his family. Brent & Kathryn Yeates

Dick definitely had the vision of uniting generations -- of the dead in his service as a sealer, but of the living, too, as a grandfatherly figure, where age was no barrier. He was my home teacher for 10 years, and shared many wonderful messages. I don't think he ever missed a visit, even during Joyce's illness. He bore powerful testimony, and also some funny and amazing stories about his childhood in a very different time and place.

I attended the memorial service for Dick Aegerter tonight and enjoyed hearing the great tributes about Dick and his devotion to the gospel. I loved being reminded about his quiet faithful service to everyone in his community whether it be the church or the temple or his neighborhood. Everyone who had the joy of knowing Dick was blessed by his presence in their lives. I will miss seeing him in the temple on Thursdays and most of all I will miss his "bear" hugs - Dick is the best hugger in the world! When he wrapped his arms around me - I felt safe and secure and truly loved! I am so happy he and Joyce are together again enjoying a HUG!
