James Lupo Obituary
1941 ~ 2014
Salt Lake/Helper, UT-James Americo Lupo, age 73, passed away November 1, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born June 7, 1941 in Price, Utah to Jim and Marion Bonacci Lupo. Jimmy spent his youth in Helper and had a love for baseball, playing proudly for the Helper Little League team. In October of 1953 he was struck with Polio. After a long recovery he was never able to return to the game again. Despite his illness, Jimmy became an avid golfer and skier. After graduating from the University of Utah, he pursued his passion in journalism and began his first occupation at the Salt Lake Tribune. In 1966 Jimmy and his family opened the first "Lupo's Italian Restaurant" in downtown Salt Lake City. After a short break and a brief stint in Hawaii, Jimmy returned to begin a new venture known as "The Point After" restaurant and supper club in Helper. Jimmy eventually relocated his business back to Salt Lake City where he continued with the famous "Lupo's" Italian Restaurant. Jimmy was well known for his hospitality and fine Italian food, gaining him awards and recognition throughout the years. Jimmy eventually hung up the pots and pans and pursued his love for meeting new people and sharing his knowledge and beauty of Utah history. Therefore known as "Jimmy's Famous Tours". Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet him, instantly fell in love with him. His kind loving spirit, his gregarious personality and passion for life captured those around him. He always had a humorous story to tell and left everyone waiting for the next animated tale to be told. "Honest to God" Jimmy we love and miss you! "Holy Fish Fry on a Friday" our wonderful Jimmy has left his "Beautiful" memoires behind for all of us to enjoy.
He is survived by his three nieces who he loved and considered his own daughters, Franki Schmidt (Eric) Coral Springs, Florida, Lorri Jones, Phoenix Arizona, Jaynee Samnik (Matt) Holiday, Florida, three great-nieces; Andrea, Jacqui, Jordyn; three great-nephews; Merino, Brayden, Santino; brother, Frank (Velva) Peoria, Arizona; and sister by heart, Jayne Lupo.
