Carol Hansen Obituary

Carol Vaughn Curran Hansen
1945 - 2015
Carol Vaughn Curran Hansen passed away unexpectedly on January 21st, 2015 while serving in the LDS Church's Utah Salt Lake City Mission as Mission President companion to her best friend and husband, Stephen W. Hansen.
Born and raised in Washington DC, she and her husband lived in several states prior to moving to Minnesota where they raised their family and lived for 29 years. Married in the Washington DC Stake Center on August 27th, 1966, they spent their honeymoon traveling to Salt Lake where they were sealed for time and all eternity on September 9th, 1966. They have treasured their time serving in the same area where "their story began." The last time the entire family was together was June 3rd, 2014 as they gathered once again in the Salt Lake Temple to celebrate the marriage of their oldest grandchild. Carol's love of family, missionary service, family history and temple work are the hallmarks of her life.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of love and service to sustain her 8 children: Ken Hansen (Christine), Michael Hansen (Jenifer), Curtis Hansen (Allyson), Mimi Chipman (Kely), Holly Call (Kumen), Sheri Anderson (Krister), Spencer Hansen (Angela), Wendy O'Bryant (Steven). She also leaves behind her 23 grandchildren who will miss "Gramma" every day of their lives. In addition, over 350 missionaries have been influenced by her example of serving the Lord with all of her "heart, might, mind and strength." She blessed their lives with her master teaching skills, honed through years of early morning Seminary and Sunday School teaching.
She is reunited with her beloved parents Philip Douglas and Frances Adelaide Metcalf Curran who welcomed her into their home with delight on August 26th 1945, their first and only daughter. She will be dearly missed by her brothers and sisters-in-law Doug Curran (Colleen) and Dick Curran (Janis), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends and fellow Saints.
Born with the soul of an artist, Carol sang with the power and voice of an angel. Her music, paintings, quilts and illustrations adorn the walls of her loved ones homes from coast to coast. Her most treasured work was the beautiful relationship she built with her husband, which in turn created a forever family. She lived her earthly life as a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and will continue that work as she watches over her family and friends and reminds us all to leave "no empty chairs."
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 900 Eaglepointe Drive, North Salt Lake, Utah, where friends and family may visit Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. as well as Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

As my best friend from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, Carol and I have kept in touch over the years and got together again just last April for a short, but wonderful visit. My heart goes out to your whole family for the loss of a wonderful woman so unexpectedly. May you each continue to feel her love in your lives and know that she won't ever be very far from you all.

We will greatly miss Carol, especially me. Carol was so talented in every way. She shared her water coloring with me in private lessons. I will never forget it. Carol also shared her creative way of doing activity books for her grandchildren. I wanted to be around her more and learn from all her talents and wisdom.
