Ralph Bradley Obituary

1920-2016
On December 22, Ralph O. Bradley passed away surrounded by his loving children. His capacity for love was limitless, and he will be deeply missed by family, friends, those he served through his leadership, and the many others he touched on his journey through life.
He left this life as he lived it, nobly. Truly of Ralph, it can be said, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." As a family, we have the certain knowledge that death is not the end and this period of separation is only temporary.
Ralph was born February 24, 1920, on a kitchen table in Moroni, Utah, the first of two children of William Otis and Nida Susannah Hales Bradley. He married Mildred Harris on May 14, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was in business for himself most of his life, at Bradley Badger, Town & Country Home Furnishings and Bradley's Sleep Center. He wanted to work for himself so his children could work with him.
Ralph loved children. He is survived by 13 children, S. Robert (Lonnie), Susan (Leslie) Dorrough, Judith Parry, Craig (Joy), Betsy (Dalton) Cannon, Richard, James (Shauna), Maryjane (Bradford) Melis, Peggy Waltman, John (Ann), David (Catherine), Barbara (Michael) Creer and Lisa (Ned) Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Bradley, and daughter, Kathleen (Ron) Offret. At the time of his passing, Ralph and Mildred were blessed with 86 grandchildren, 231 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Ralph is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Sorbonne.
Ralph was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. His greatest joy was his family. His family was very important to him. He sponsored fun-filled family reunions and brought his children together on cruises. But, with Ralph it wasn't just the big events. He was in touch with the lives of each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on a very personal and individual basis. He had the amazing ability to know what everyone was up to, their struggles and challenges, and their successes. He was always there to offer a listening ear and advice.
As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ralph was always blessed with a strong and valiant testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and showed that testimony through continuous service. Ralph spent nearly his entire adult life serving in the church. He willingly devoted his time to callings such as Bishop, Stake President, Mission President of the North Carolina Charlotte Mission, Executive Secretary to the Southeast Area President, Regional Representative of the Twelve, Director of Temple Square, President of the Washington D.C. Temple and Sealer in the Salt Lake Temple. He was also a committed and caring home teacher.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30th, at 11:00 am at Garden Heights Ward, 2220 E. Fisher Lane (2950 South). A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City on Thursday, December 29th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and also Friday December 30th from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the General Missionary Fund, Humanitarian Fund or Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"Well done thou good and faithful servant." My mission President from 194-1986. He was the picture of class and yet a humble and hard working man of integrity. "Make it happen Elder" was a familiar piece of advice. Thank you Bradley family for sharing your wonderful father with the world.

I always loved visiting and seeing President Bradley. Having grown up with many of the family, it was always great to go to the store, and see Ralph train and mentor his family members and employees in the art of selling and business. What an amazing posterity, and exemplary life well lived. A true Patriarch in every sense of the word.

I had the spiritually profound experience of serving in North Carolina under the direction of Pres. Bradley. What an amazing culture our mission embodied because of his integral leadership. So many lessons he imparted! I am so indebted to him and his family!

Bradley Boys-Craig, Richard, Jimmy, John and David. Thanks for your examples during my employment at Bradley's Sleep Center. What a truly marvelous man your Father is. A man without guile, envy and all the worldy traits that so affect society. Happy memories of my time working for him.
Thoughts and prayers for you and your "extended" family on this day. I'm grateful for the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ which can reunite us all again.

The earth has truly lost a great patriarch - not just for his amazing family, but in God's family as well.
Ralph treated all of us like we were close family. Every conversation I had with him drew me closer to my Father in Heaven. It was a special gift of his. I am certain I was not the only one he touched in simple, sacred ways. He is very dear to my heart and I will greatly miss him.
I hope we will all reverence him and his sweet Mildred's in their dream of no empty seats.
Farewell, Ralph. We love you!

My father loved and respected Ralph Bradley. There are no words to express the example Ralph had on my father. On behalf of my father, thanks, thanks, and ever thanks for the example, friendship, and brotherhood you shared with him. You made him feel a part of things and like he was somebody. He never ceased speaking highly of you to his children.

My father cannot speak now, but this echoes the feelings of his hearts. Till you both meet again.

President Bradley was my mission President in North Carolina. I was saddened to learn of his passing, but know it must be a marvelous reunion with his dear Mildred. I learned so much about faith and the power of prayer while serving under him. I also loved his quick wit and sense of humor. What an incredible legacy he has left.
I pray you all feel peace and comfort at this time.

Dear Bradley Family,

Sue and I were saddened to learn of Ralph's passing after we visited him only a few days ago. What a marvelous man he was, and is. We never ceased to be taught, and inspired, by his good life. His greatest desire, as you all know, is that there will be "no empty chairs" in the Bradley mansion on high. We sincerely hope he gets his wish.

One of the great privileges of our life has been to help him preserve his history for his posterity. What a legacy he leaves, not just for you but also for everyone who knew him.

May this be a time of rejoicing for a marvelous life well lived, and given to all he had the chance to share it with.

Love, John & Sue Laing

You probably don't remember me, but we were neighbors, and playmates when I lived at 123 U Street. Later, I lived in a boarding house across the street while attending the "U." One Sunday I rode with the Bradleys to stake conference in the assembly hall. A speaker asked those who were going on a mission to stand. I didn't. Then Mildred said, "David, aren't you going on a mission?" Reluctantly, I stood up. Later that day, Bishop Bradley called, and said, "I saw you stand up today...", and the rest is history. That event shaped and blessed my life. I have loved and admired Ralph and Mildred for over 60 years now. Our firstborn was named Bradley in recognition of the special influence the Bradleys have had in my life. Accept my condolences for your loss.

Brother Bradley was the stake president of the Salt Lake Emigration stake (the stake in which I grew up) for as long as I can remember. I have only one outstanding memory of him. My sister and brother-in-law were married by brother Bradley in his home. The ceremony was oh so quiet, and right in the middle, I shifted positions on my legs and my foot hit a glass table in front of the sofa, making a loud rattle. I was so embarrassed. Brother Bradley diffused the situation by cracking a joke. I'm so sorry the Salt Lake community has lost this upstanding citizen. Lisa, I attended jr. high and high school with you. I pray your faith will carry you through this difficult time.

On your dads last day as President of the Washington DC temple he disappeared during the goodbyes, when someone asked Sister Bradley where he was she sweetly replied "He's off praying, he's the prayingist man I know!" I loved your parents!

President Bradley was my Temple Square president many years ago and taught me countless gospel and life lesson. I continued to learn from him and his sweet wife as they served as Temple President and Matron in our Washington DC temple when I was a young mother. He will always be remembered fondly and with deep gratitude for his great example of a faithful servant of the Lord.
