Matthew J. Hiney, Jr died suddenly on January 14, 2013, surrounded by loved ones in San Antonio, TX.
He was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, on June 15, 1939, the son of Matthew, Sr. and Hilda (Hutchinson) Hiney. Matt graduated from Attleboro High School in 1957 and served in the Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he traveled to Africa and served as a ceremonial guard in Washington, DC often accompanying important dignitaries to Camp David.
Matt married Joan Proulx in 1963 and had 3 loving children. He worked in the insurance industry for over ten years, and spent several years living in Germany, exploring medical treatment for his ongoing illness.
Matt married Martha Ballantyne in 1980 and they built their life together in Texas.
He loved politics, spending time with his family, traveling, and enjoyed meeting others, often striking up a conversation with those he met. He loved his grandchildren very much and was present for the birth of each one. Never one to give up, he fought to maintain his health and will be remembered and missed by many.
Matt is survived by his life partner, Martha Ballantyne, of San Antonio, TX, 3 sisters; Julia Hiney of Port Orange, FL, Louise Plante of Dearing, GA, Jane Morse of San Antonio, TX, and brother Michael Hiney of Port Orange, FL. Daughters; Denise Spencer of Bennington, VT and Kerri-Ann Esty of Windsor, VT, grandchildren; Benjamin Gaucher, Christopher Spencer, Morgan Gaucher, Ashley Spencer, Tyler Hiney and Brandee Devine; niece, Susan Berube and nephew William Morse.
Matt was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Joan, his son, Matthew J. Hiney III, and nephews; Richard Morse, Jr, and Paul Berube.
A spring burial is planned in Windsor VT, where he will be laid to rest near his son, Matthew Hiney III.
