Anne Martin Jones died peacefully in her home on January 10, 2014. She was born in Houston, Texas, on July 20, 1929, to Alma and Walter Martin. She graduated from Milby High School in 1947 and attended Rice Institute (University) until she married William Christopher Jones III in 1950. She went back to college in the early 1960's, attending North Texas State and graduating from the University of Texas
in 1964. Her family moved to New Braunfels when Bill Jones was called in 1965 to pastor the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church. Anne then entered a new phase of her life and began teaching and subsequently serving as school librarian at Goodwin Elementary. After her teaching career, she greatly enjoyed her work at the Sophienburg Museum and Archives. After Bill retired, they moved to San Antonio in 1993 where Anne made many new friends as she shared her wit and wisdom in a new church community.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband in 2005. She is survived by her only child, Will C. Jones IV, her grandchildren Annabell Jones McNew and Will C. Jones V, her step-sister Johanna Adams, several cousins, and her faithful caregiver, Virginia Garcia.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 2:00 P.M., at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo, San Antonio, Texas, The Rev. Scott Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Christian Assistance Ministry in San Antonio, the Sophienburg Museum or New Braunfels Presbyterian Church.
