Barbara Lewis

Barbara Calamia Lewis, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on June 8, 2013. Barbara was born March 2, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1949 with a degree in Fine Arts where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and Scottish Rite Dormitory. An accomplished artist, she taught school in Houston, Texas, where she met Wade while he was attending Baylor Medical School. They married three months later. She was always busy while raising 6 children, continuing studying art and sculpture and being active in the Bexar County Medical Society, The Medical Auxiliary, St. Monica's Guild and was a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She loved being with her tennis "family," playing bridge, meeting her regular lunch group at El Jarro, fishing for a "Big Red" at Rockport, and cheering on the New Orleans Saints. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she loved frequent family gatherings and spending time with love ones. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Sanders. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wade. H. Lewis, M.D. and by her six children and their spouses; Wade Hampton Lewis IV (JoAnne), Melissa Burkett (Larry), Roy Lewis (Sharon), Leslie Watson (Fletcher), Jennifer McBeth (David) and Stephanie Lewis (David Adame). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
