Lt. COMMANDER CARL SCOTT
Lt. Commander Carl Scott, Retired, "Scotty", age 93, of Bandera, Texas, formerly of San Antonio, passed away on March 6, 2014 in Bandera. A World War II veteran, Scotty was born in East Chicago, Indiana to Sumbat and Celia Sukiasian on July 8, 1920. He was married to (first wife) Loraine Gustafson in 1947 in Fairfax, Minnesota, and (second wife) Eleanor Scott-Saks of San Antonio.

Carl's mother passed away shortly after his birth, and his father, Sumbat, was seriously wounded while serving with the US Army in World War One. Prior to his passing, Sumbat placed Carl in an orphanage for Children of Soldiers and Sailors in Knightstown, Indiana. Carl remained in the orphanage until he was 18.
Carl played football and basketball in high school, and was a State Champion wrestler his senior year. He subsequently attended the University of Tampa (Florida) where was playing football, when the Second World War broke out.
Scotty's entire football team enlisted following Pearl Harbor. Scotty followed suit shortly after he recovered from a football injury.
He learned later that every person on the team but one had been killed in action in the Pacific front.
Scotty was proud to serve in the war as a US Navy pilot. He flew many bombing missions out of Alaska and from various islands in the Pacific Ocean.
Following the war, Scotty served with the US Coast Guard as a Search and Rescue Pilot for ten years, flying out of Alaska, Guam, St. Petersburg, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas. Scotty participated in many life-saving operations during his career and also worked closely with NASA in the 1960's on space capsule recovery operations. He retired a Lt. Commander and became a stock broker with Prudential Bache Securities in San Antonio in 1962 where he retired as vice president. Carl was an active member and officer of the Optimist Club for many years, loved golf and had one hole in one.
Scotty is preceded in death by his mother and father, wife of 25 years Loraine, much believed son in law Mark Jilek, children Diane
and Robert Scott, and granddaughter Grace Scott of Bellaire Beach, Florida.
Scotty is survived by ex-wife Eleanor, children Mary Jilek, Pat and George Scott, Landon and wife Janel Scott, and Christopher and wife Lauren Scott; grandchildren Brian and wife Jennifer Jilek, Jason and wife Michelle Jilek, Jeffrey Nugent, Chris, Rick, David, John, and Meghan Scott; great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Taylor, Sevy, Lexie, Caiden, Lola, Justin, Celia, Kylan, Tessa, Cullen, Elli, Kean, Breanna, Jenna, Sophia, Logan, Shelby, Nathan, Hayden, Ashton and soon to come Zoey.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM Thursday March 13, 2014 at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera. Officiating will be Hospice Chaplain Larry Davis.
