Charles Oliver Overstreet Jr., 71, of San Antonio, Texas, died June 7, 2013. He was born December 30, 1941, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to June E. and Charley O. Overstreet.
Charles earned a bachelor of science and a master of science from Southwest Texas State University. He served more than 23 years in the military as an Army intelligence officer in Vietnam and the Reserves, earning the rank of Lt. Colonel.
In 1986, he joined San Antonio College as a Physics professor and retired his tenured position in 2007. He was actively involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW) serving as the quarter master, a member of the house committee and other special committees. Charles also was a member of the American Legion.
Charles is survived by his sons, Charles C. Overstreet and Edwinn Overstreet; daughter, Joy Hiltabidle; grandchildren, Charles J. Overstreet and Devon Overstreet; sister, Janice Fowler; and many friends who loved him. He will be remembered as a charming man with a great sense of humor.
Funeral Service will be held at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, June 21 at 9 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the VFW Post 8541 on 2222 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the VFW Post 8541 in Charles' name.
