Charles Smith

SMITH
Charles A. Smith, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. He was born on August 25, 1923 to parents, Charles and Era Smith in El Paso, Texas. In 1941, he graduated high school in Santa Fe, New Mexico and shortly thereafter, served in the US Army in the European campaign during World War II. Returning to the states, he entered and graduated from the University of Texas-Austin in 1948. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Margaret Chapman. For 37 years, he worked as a mechanical engineer and in 1985, retired from ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia. He and his wife were long time members of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and teaching English as a second language. He had a passion for painting and led a class in watercolors. In 2005, Charles and Margaret relocated to the beautiful surroundings at the Inn at Los Patios and shared many joyful years together. Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine Michelle Maier. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret; son, Douglas (New York City); grandchildren, Charity and Jennifer; five great-grandchildren and brother, Edwin Smith (Kent, WA). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough.
