Coyle Williams

Coyle Willis Williams Jr., M.D. went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 14, 2013 at the age of 87. Born on September 5, 1925 in Norfolk, Virginia he grew up traveling the United States following his father's naval career, Dr. Williams graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and completed his medical degree and orthopedic residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was married to the late Doris Ida Peterson Williams from 1952 until her death in 1967 and then to the late Winifred Dowa Pugh Williams from 1968 until her death in 2011. He served two years in the United States Army prior to his residency training. He eventually settled in San Antonio where he practiced as an orthopedic surgeon from 1959 - 1993. As an undergraduate and graduate student he was involved in Baptist Student Union and Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF). He continued his involvement and support of IVCF for years following graduation with the chapter at Trinity University. Locally he was also active with the Gideons, Christian Medical and Dental Association and following his retirement with Bexar County Medical Society Dinosaurs. He loved to read, travel, share his faith and spend time with family. He was a dedicated, kind and compassionate physician. He helped many people through his private practice and generously donated his time and skills to low income clinics in San Antonio, the polio clinic at Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center in Laredo and to crippled children at Jesus Hospital in Chonju, Korea. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church from 1959 until his death. He is preceded in death by his son Paul Timothy Williams and survived by his six children: Peter and Sara Williams of Boerne, Faith and Mark Lane of San Antonio, Grace and Greg Slate of Littleton, CO, Daniel Williams of San Antonio, Benjamin Williams of San Antonio, Phillip and Rosanne Williams of San Antonio, 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
