Donald Anthony Grigas, age 79, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born April 21, 1934 in Brockton, MA. to Joseph Michael and Victoria (nee Godlewski) Grigas. On February 22, 1961 Don married the love of his life, Virginia Catherine Davis in San Antonio, Texas.
Don began a career in the United States Air Force
, retiring after 22 years in 1973 as a Master Sergeant. In addition to being an Air Force recruiter in the Boston Area, he served his country in both Korea and Vietnam. After his distinguished Air Force career, Don began a life as an entrepreneur in the Rio Grande Valley. He was the General Manager of the Rodeway Inn Hotel, owned a Mini Golf Course, a travel magazine, served as General Manager for Rosales Duran Productions (US Division) and acted in many of their films. He later moved to Austin where in addition to owning a restaurant he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service where he retired a second time in 1994. After Don and Virginia officially retired the second time they moved to San Antonio where Don was able to fit in a part time job with Enterprise Rental Car in between golf games.
Don was an avid golfer and a member of many organizations. He was a Colonel in the Confederate Air Force in Harlingen, Texas and the President of the Crown Ridge Association in San Antonio, Texas. Don was an active member of the Lockheed C-141 StarLifter 1000 Hours Club, the Lions Club, the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, the Kiwanis Club, and many other organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Catherine Grigas of Georgetown, TX; daughters, Charlene Ganski and husband Michael of Georgetown, Janice Foulk and partner Daryl Ashley of Round Rock, TX, Patricia Grigas of Round Rock; grandchildren, Michael Foulk of Austin, TX, Kristin and Nicholas Ganski of Georgetown; Niece, Georgianne Grigas-Somers and husband John of East Lansing, Michigan; and nephew, Joseph Grigas and wife Sue of Morrice, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Cornelius Krokonis; and brother, Joseph Grigas.
Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with full military honors.
