Gerald J. Lavender, age 93, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 after a short illness. He was born November 7, 1920 in Newberry, Michigan. His parents, Edward and Bertha, owned the local bakery there, and he was the youngest of their seven children. Gerald (Gerry) Lavender served in the US Army Air Force during World War II
as a Navigator on B17 bombers. Gerry, a 1st Lieutenant, guided over 75 missions over Europe, and was decorated many times. After the war, Gerry finished his degree from the University of Michigan
, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and became a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry. Gerry is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gladys Joyce Lavender; his son Gerry Lavender and daughter-in-law, Carol Lavender of San Antonio; his daughter Diane Fugate and son-in-law, John Fugate; grandsons Sean Fugate; Dillon Fugate and wife, Jennifer Fugate and one great grandson, Grady Fugate, all of Houston.
