SPENCER
Harold Spencer, 90, of San Antonio passed away on April 19, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was born in San Francisco, California on July 15, 1922. At 17 Harold Joined the United States Navy serving 21 years including service in WW2 and Korea. He married the late Patricia Donnelly on May 29, 1946 they lived on multiple naval bases before finally settling down in San Antonio. Harold also spent 20 years as a Civil Service electrician on Kelly A.F.B. In the early 80's he began collecting cans with his daughter as a Girl Scout fund raiser, he then continued collecting cans as a retirement hobby on Lackland A.F.B, where he made many beloved friends and became somewhat of a base fixture. He is preceded in passing by his wife Patricia Ann Spencer, son David Winters Spencer and grandson David Allen Petty. He is survived by four daughters, two sons and a son in law: Margaret Verna Chan, Daniel Allen Spencer, Patrick L. Spencer, Jane Spencer and husband Joseph Chadborn, and Kathleen M. Harrington. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Yvette Petty, Natasha Harrington, George Gibson Harrington III, Augustus Xavier Harrington and August Winters Chadborn as well as two great grandchildren: Meghan and Damien Martinez. Funeral Service will be held at Fort. Sam National Cemetery at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

I worked on the Base and always brought him his favorite hard candy.

Spent many years working on the base... Mr.Spencer "The Can Man" as we knew him by was a pleasure to see almost daily. Great memories of stories he told. He will be missed. LAFB won't be the same without him.
