Herbert Ernest Kellner, Jr.

Herbert E. Kellner, Jr., 72, of Houston passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 23, 1940 to Herbert and Lucy Kellner. He served in the US Navy Seabees from 1958 to 1961 in Guam following graduation from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio in 1958. After serving his country, he studied Architecture at the University of Houston. His Architectural career included positions at Dow Chemical Company and Hermes Reed Architects.

Herb, as he was known to his many friends, will be remembered most for his great sense of humor, love of cats, and warm smile. He was an accomplished cartoonist often drawing his friends in funny situations. Herb was a member of the Corvair Club of Houston and loved to restore old cars and trucks. He and his buddies often teamed up for the BBQ cook off at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with his friends was his favorite pastime.

Herb is survived by his children, Laura Kellner of New York City and Craig Kellner of Baltimore, Maryland, granddaughter Andrea Kellner and grandson Christopher Kellner both of Baltimore, Maryland, his sister Jean Kellner Durkee of Austin, Texas, nephews and their wives Robert Rosswell Durkee, III (Jill) of Austin, Mark Kellner Durkee (Debby) of Houston, Todd Gibson Durkee (Carol) of The Woodlands and his former wives Kathie Kellner of Montgomery, Texas and Linda Murdock of Houston. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Ernest and Lucy Stevens Kellner and his brother-in-law Robert R. Durkee, Jr.
