James Alex Mitchell

MITCHELL
James Alex Mitchell, Sr., age 61 of San Antonio, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born on September 10, 1952 to Ralph J. and Pauline Ratcliff Mitchell in Sheridan, Wyoming. Jim served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam and retired after 22 years of service. After he retired from the military he continued to serve his community for an additional 19 years as a San Antonio Police Officer. Just shy of 1 year from retirement from the SAPD he was diagnosed with ALS. Jim was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is preceded in death in by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra Mitchell; children, James Alex Mitchell, Jr., Arthur Gonzales, and Scarlett Massengale; sisters, Patti Mitchell, Janice Rowland (Ron), Verna Mitchell (Ricky), Sharon Lopes (Rudy), and Paulienne Mitchell; Father and Mother-in-law, Robert and Guadalupe Alvarado; numerous nieces and nephews. Jim will be remembered as a loving husband and father and a loyal police officer ~ He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough.
