James Robert Carpenter

James R. Carpenter, 87, of 146 Peach Valley, San Antonio, TX, entered in to eternal rest with the Lord at 3:20 p.m. on July 30, 2014. He had been battling cancer. Mr. Carpenter was born in Decatur, Alabama on September 12, 1926.He was the son of Walter and Dora Carpenter. He was married October 9, 1950, in Iuka, Mississippi to the love of his life Carol Jane Travis, who survives. He was retired from the United States Air Force in 1972 after 23 1/2 years of service. Surviving besides his wife are his son Dwayne E. Carpenter and wife Rayne A. Carpenter, Baton Rouge, LA, and his two daughters Linda L. Kirkland, Jacksonville, FL and Christine E. McGee and husband Michael L. McGee Phoenix, AZ, 4 grandchildren Kevin W. Norman and his wife Tabatha Norman, Keith J. Norman and his wife Janie Norman, James B. Engleman, and Blaize E. Carpenter, and 2 great-grandchildren James Tyler Engleman and Falyn Rae Norman. He was one of 7 children, survived only by his sister Myrtice Landolfi, Ashville, NC.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. His body will be laid to rest at a private family graveside service which will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors and 21 gun salute.
He was an active member of the American Legion and the VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Legion, 3002 Gunsmoke St, San Antonio, TX 78227, in the name of Jim Carpenter will be graciously accepted.
