Jay Raymond Efner, 83, born Sept. 26, 1929 in Chicago, IL to the late Frank Raymond Efner and Edna Jean Tressell, passed gently away from this life on Oct. 31, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Not long after graduating from Freeport High School Jay enlisted in the Army
and served his country proudly until his honorable discharge in 1951. Serving in the military awakened his passion to meet people and travel, and ultimately led him to find a lifetime career in sales. Upon retirement he would regale his family with tales from his beloved career and how he could always 'close the deal'.
Jay had a lifelong passion of caring for animals of all kinds. It started with his pet horse as a child and continued on to his eventual co-ownership in a dog kennel with his former wife Betty Moore.
He was particularly proud of recently achieving his status as a 50 year member of the Anchor Masonic Lodge #424.
Jay is preceded in death by Patricia Clark Efner, his wife of 23 years, his parents and sisters, Marion & Charlotte. Jay is survived by his son Brian R. Efner-Moore, niece Cheryl Wengler (James) and stepson Richard Graves (Christie), as well as extended family and many dear friends.
Interment and a memorial service with full military honors will be held on Fri., Nov. 16, 2012 at 10:45am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
