Jerry Newton

Dr. Jerry Newton died peacefully in his sleep on May 31, at the age of 92. From 1955-1970, Dr. Newton was the only board certified pediatrician practicing on the west side of San Antonio. From the age of 50, he and his wife Rose served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay for three years. He then became the director of school health for SAISD from 1972 to 1997. During that time he and Rose also created, wrote and published a national newsletter "School Health Alert", and he wrote the textbook "Handbook for School Health" For the last 60 years, he and his closest friends maintained a weekly poker game, which he usually won. Dr. Newton's wife Rose, and daughters Lauren and Leslie, invite his friends to join them for a remembrance gathering at Adante Senior Living on June 9 at 11:00 AM.
