John "Jack" Gilley Davis, of Cibolo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Garden Ridge Assisted Living in Garden Ridge, Texas.
John was born February 7, 1930 to Henry and Gertrude Davis, in Cut Bank, Montana. After graduating from Cut Bank High School in 1948, he attended the University of Montana and graduated in 1952. That summer, on a trip to Glacier National Park, he met the love of his life, Ann Louise Aamodt, from Minneapolis, who was working at East Glacier Lodge for the summer. They were married on January 17, 1953. Immediately after their wedding, they started their new life in Germany. John served in the Air Force from July 1952 to July 1954.
When they returned from Germany, John began his employment in Minneapolis as a manager with Gambles, then Sears, with the family moving to Glendive and Glasgow, Montana and Superior, Wisconsin in 1967. After retiring from Sears in 1984, John and Ann relocated to Cibolo, Texas.
An exciting opportunity arose when John was asked to start a new area for Certified Folder Display Service in San Antonio, from which he retired after 9 years of service.
John and Ann's love of travel was the highlight of each summer vacation-traveling to see America from Wisconsin to Montana, Washington, California and all points between. In later years John and Ann returned to the land of 10,000 Lakes enjoying their summers at Eagle Bay Lodge in Park Rapids, MN with their children and grandchildren.
John and Ann celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 17, 2013 with their four children, Doug, Brad, Julie & Gregg.
John was a member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a proud University of Montana Alumni, Sigma Nu Fraternity and an avid U of M Grizzly football fan. He loved all sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings and the San Antonio Spurs. His favorite place to visit was Glacier National Park in Montana where he loved to hike and fish with his family. His love of nature lives on in his wife and children.
John was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Henry.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Doug Davis, Brad (Julie) Davis, Julie (Joe) Trevino and Gregg (Leigh Ann) Davis; grandchildren, Amanda (fiancé Jeff Burkhart) Davis, Jacob Trevino, Kelly and Lauren Davis; great-granddaughters Adalyn Davis and Natalie Burkhart; sister Wilma (Art) Fitzner and brother Harold (Janet) Davis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved to tease endlessly.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 4, at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, 16245 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, TX.
A special thank you to Dorothy and Dean Weirtz, Juan and Maggie Lopez and all the loving staff at Garden Ridge Assisted Living.
