John Idar

John Murray Idar of San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born to the late C. N. and Laura Idar. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lupe Idar, one daughter Sandra Elaine Idar, one grandson Ray Anthony Sanchez (Nadia); and 3 great-grandchildren; Jace Carlo Sanchez, Aidan J. Rodriguez and Sian V. Rodriguez, and several nieces and nephews. John was a WWII United States Navy veteran and served as a radioman and gunner, a lifetime member of the VFW, a past Grand Knight at the Knights of Columbus Council 7323 and a 4th Degree member of St. Vincent De Paul Council 2040. He was employed at the San Antonio Light for 44 years. Most importantly of all, he was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 6:00 PM at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Rd. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 AM, Thursday, January 16, 2014, at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
