Johnnie Joe Ochoa Sr.

Johnnie Joe Ochoa Sr. (Mr Rocco), born September 17, 1923 passed away on February 4, 2014 at the age of 90 surrounded by his loving family Consisting of 5 generations. Mr. Rocco was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Petra Dominguez Ochoa; son-in-law, Jaime Garza; nephew, Oscar Lawson and daughter-in-law, Grace Robledo Ochoa. He is survived by his children; Johnnie Joe Jr (Pearl), Robert (Melinda), Gloria Jean Garza (Jaime), David Sr, Lee R. Sr., Barbara Ann Fuentes (Tom), Betty Jo and Chris Sr, as well as 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Proud member of VFW POST 76, Mr. Rocco was a World War II Pearl Harbor era Veteran based out of Harlingen Army Air Corp Base , Harlingen Texas. After his assignment as an aircraft gunner, Mr. Rocco cross trained to cooking at newly created Kelly AFB. This skill and training lead to a career in opening, training and and managing Dennys Area Restaurants and Head Chef at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio Hotel . Later Mr. Rocco pursued a Deputy Constable career under Sheriff Joe Nieves, Fred Moran and Dean Jones. Later, his love, passion and support of live local music from bands, such as, "Barrio Sounds", "Los Dos Dudes", "Rocky OBG Band", "Sunny Ace", "Q -Vo", George Rivas", "Sauce Gonzales Westside Horns", "Joe Guerrero Band" and "Latin Breed" to name a few, lead Mr. Rocco to years of night club ownership that included the Keg Inn, Rocco's Poco Mas, Rocco's Tropical Room and the legendary "Rocco's Aquarium Night Club" where several local political campaign rallies and fundraisers were held. When he retired, Mr. Rocco created a house painting sub-contractor business. His love for family, friends, along with his passion for saltwater fishing and life will be missed by all, but he will be remembered forever in our hearts!
