Rev. Fr. Joseph C. Schwegmann, SSJV, 62, went home to his Lord on May 28/29, 2012, in Manila, The Philippines, while preparing to visit his family in San Antonio. The son of Bernard and Dorothy Schwegmann , born on Feb. 3,1950, Fr. Joe attended St. Gerard Grade School and Central Catholic High School. After graduating from the University of Idaho, he entered the Peace Corps. Fr. Joe was ordained a Catholic priest on Sept. 12, 1981 for the archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro in the Philippines.
Much loved by all who knew him, he was very active in pro life groups. A brief account is in the Oct. 5 Today's Catholic. His dedication to pro-life issues granted him opportunities to speak throughout the Philippine Islands and other locales. Known as Fr. Joe to his Parishioners, his love for people enabled him to bring them closer to Our Lord and to each other, and to serve them with truth and humility.
He is survived by a sister Dorothy McGinnis and husband William, and three brothers, Ben Schwegmann, William Schwegmann and wife Shirley, and Robert Schwegmann and Karen Hall, two aunts, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
