Hooten, Lawrence Ferrell (Bill)
Bill Hooten, 83, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2013, after a spirited battle with cancer. Born August 31, 1930, in Henry County, Georgia, Bill served in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He met and married Mary Ann Colby Hooten, and they were married for 41 years until her death in 2003. After retiring from the USAF, Bill resided in McAllen, Texas, where he worked for the United States Customs Service for 18 years. Bill enjoyed watching old Western re-runs, loved dogs, and had a special place in his heart for his family. He was predeceased by his mother, Missouri Hooten; his father, Lemmie Hooten; two brothers, Huey and JD Hooten; and his wife, Mary Ann Colby Hooten. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Kathy Hooten Wilkey, sons Douglas (Jan) Hooten, Ronnie (Yolanda) Colby, Mike (Peggy) Colby, John (Tracy) Colby, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harold Hooten, sister Mardelle Sowell, and many Georgia relatives and friends. Burial service will be held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 10:00 am.
