Our beloved devoted father Leon Anderson Sr. started his next journey Tuesday Sept. 17, 2013. He was born the oldest of 4 brothers and 1 sister in Florala Alabama on Oct. 1 1922. He proudly worked and eventually retired after 42 years of Civil Service at Kelly AFB. He then went on to work for Honeywell after his retirement. He was a proud veteran of WWII
and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was heavily involved with VFW
Post 8541, where he served as Post Commander. Most Saturday nights, he could be found there dancing the night away with his darling wife of 56 years Jo Nita the love of his life. As an avid golfer he was a member at Ft. Sam Houston Golf Club and held bragging rights of the ever illusive hole in one. He was a ham radio operator with call letters of K4THT, and W5QLQ, and spoke with people all over the world even once chatting with Barry Goldwater. He loved people and always greeted strangers with a smile. Leon (Andy) Anderson was an admirable father, and a wonderful grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He taught us by example, to be respectful, kind, honest, and to always do the right thing. He was a proud man, and especially proud of his family. We are lucky to have had such a good father, respected by many hated by none. He will be missed every day.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Nita Anderson, and his only son Leon Anderson Jr. (Bubba)
He is survived by his children: Lydia Mason (William), Kris Starr (James), Angel Coggins (Bill), Kim Garrighan (Tim). Grandchildren : Jason Mason, Lindsay Starr, Tyler Starr, Cody Coggins, Casey Coggins, Chelsea Coggins, Christian Coggins, Hannah Garrighan, Lydia Garrighan, Abigail Garrighan, Maggie Garrighan, and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to his caregivers Mary, Julie, and Delia for your kindness and love for our father, your dedication to him was invaluable.
