Pete Papadakis

Pete Hercules Papadakis passed away May 23, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas, where he was born August 23, 1932. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1956 and served in the Army Corps of Engineers. From 1962-1992, he was an experimental stress and design engineer for Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pete was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Indianapolis until he moved back to San Antonio in 2007. In San Antonio he was a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, where he was baptized as an infant.

In 1997, Pete received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors in painting from Indiana University Herron School of Art and Design. He maintained a painting studio in downtown Indianapolis and held exhibits in both commercial galleries and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He was also accomplished at photography and classical guitar, and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

Pete is survived by his wife Brenda; his children Maria Papadakis and husband Fred Copithorn, Denise Bowling, Michael Bowling and wife Norma, Jason Bowling and wife Aracely; seven grandchildren, Benjamin and wife Sarah Merriman, Hannah , Nathan, Christopher, Grace, Nicholas, and James; nephew Mark Georgallis and niece Stephanie Proctor. .

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 27th from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm with a Trisaigon at 7:00 pm at the Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio. The funeral will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 N. St. Mary's St. at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28. Interment services will follow at Mission Park Cemetery 1700 SE Military, followed by a Makaria Meal back at St. Sophia.
