Rene Levy

Rene H. Levy born August 27, 1919 in Murphysboro, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 after a brief illness. From age 9, he lived in San Antonio. Rene was a graduate of the University of Texas with a BA and MBA in accounting. He was an Army Medic from 1941-1945 in Tacoma Washington and El Paso, Texas, where Rene met his first wife, Betty Heil. They were married in 1944 and had 2 children: (Rabbi) Eugene Levy and Barbara Jo (BJ) Levy. Rene was a self-employed accountant, whose interests included PUNNING, travel, good music, dancing, baseball, politics and fine dining, especially desserts. His memberships included the Texas Association of CPAs, Toastmasters, Temple Beth-El Brotherhood where he served as President, and the Stroke Club following his stroke in 1999. Following the death of his wife Betty, Rene was fortunate enough to marry another love of his life, Estela Mendlovitz in 1990. Rene and Estela lived a loving adventurous life together continuing the pursuits of travel, dancing, good eating, and studying Hebrew. At age 75, Rene became a Bar Mitzvah at Temple Beth-El. In addition to his wife Estela and his children, Rene is survived by his daughter- in- law Bobbye Levy; BJ's partner, Tom Wampold; 3 grandchildren: Jeremy, Ari, and Shayna Levy; a great-grandson, Theo Levy; and Estela's 2 children, Irving and Ellen and their families. A lover of his large extended family and huge circle of friends, Rene and his puns will be missed by all who knew him.
