Thomas Allen Whitley

Passed away on February 10th, 2013. Born to Anne Mae Guinn Whitley and Frank Wiltz Whitley on June 21st, 1921 in Fort Worth. His young years through high school were in Mineral Wells where Tom and his mother lived with his grandmother, Laura Guinn. He attended Tarleton College and The University of Texas before enlisting in the Marines in WWII, serving on Guadalcanal and other Pacific islands. His business career was in commercial real estate for over fifty years as a broker, developer and builder. Three of his land projects were Shady Oaks and Woodhaven country clubs in Fort Worth and The Great Hills country club in Austin. Tom was devoted to the Episcopal Church and its charities, Habitat for Humanity and the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout who loved to travel which took him throughout his lifetime to over 30 different countries around the globe. Another great love were his many friends and the game of golf where he played around the world as well. Preceded in death by his beloved grandson Thomas Andrew, survivors are son Allen of San Antonio, son Tim of Palmerston North, New Zealand, Tim's wife Carol and their daughters Cela and Cosette, former wife Shirley Timbes Whitley of San Antonio, cousin David Guinn and his wife Leslie of Granbury and their children David Santos, Quentin and Laura, step sons Tom and John Stephenson and their families of Orange.

Congregation is invited to stay after the service for a reception at St. David's. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. David's Episcopal Church or Habitat for Humanity.
