Wanda Lou Searcy Moore was born October 6, 1938 in Beeville, Texas to Richard Ira Searcy and Lorene Lavona Farris Searcy. Raised in San Antonio, she was the eldest of six children in a loving, happy home. She graduated from Abilene Christian College (now ACU) Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1961. She then received the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship to attend Vanderbilt University where she received a Masters of Arts in English in 1963. She began teaching, and married Charles Edwin Moore in June 1964 and soon after moved to California. They were married 47 years. They enjoyed raising their two children, Lorene E. Moore, now of Austin, Texas and Charlton W. Moore, now of Mill Valley, California. She was a faithful Christian her entire life, striving to follow God's word and attended the Church of Christ. She strove to be forgiving, loving and understanding, setting a positive example for those around her. She remembered fondly the many summers spent water skiing with her grandparents and siblings at their lake house in Del Rio, Texas. She enjoyed collecting antique Christmas ornaments, attending classical music performances and spending time with friends and loved ones. She cherished animals, and enjoyed many pets of her own, most recently a beloved Pomeranian named Molly. Wanda Lou Searcy Moore was an outstanding teacher, faculty leader, and fellow of the California Writing Project and the California Literature Project. She presented workshops at teacher conferences in San Jose, Sacramento, San Diego, Los Angeles, and other cities. She was a literacy coach, department chair, master teacher, and mentor teacher. She led the school's Academic Decathlon team twice to the state regionals/finals. Her priority in teaching was always the student, helping each reach his/her fullest potential as a reader, writer, and thinker. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister (Rebecca LaNell Daughtrey), and brother (John Victor Searcy II). She is survived by her son and daughter, her sisters Judith Magee, Ruth Harz, and Jane Mahon, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Texas, California and the United States.
