William Ackley

William Edward Ackley, age 80, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 27, 2011. He was born January 29, 1931 to Walter and Mary Fritch Ackley in Sayre, PA. Bill served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War where he met his future wife, Carol, while at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth. He graduated from SMU in 1959 with a Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for General Dynamics on the B-58 Airplane and McDonald Douglass as the lead engineer who wrote the test procedures for the Gemini Guidance System. Bill began work at Kelly AFB in 1965 where he worked in various programs over the next 34 years. He retired in 1999. Bill loved to fish, enjoyed painting, silver smithing and many other artistic pursuits. He traveled throughout Europe, Far East and Middle East He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for many years where he served as Eucharistic Minister and on the Pastoral Council. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Hidler; two children, William Jon and Cynthia Tramontano and husband Michael; grandchildren, Quinton and Chloe Tramontano; niece and Goddaughter, Leah and her husband Christopher Saurenmann, and their children, Jonathon (Godson) and Blake; siblings, Barbara Serowik and husband Walter, Phyllis Newman and husband Bernard, Jeanne Moore and husband Robert, Jon Ackley and wife Miriam; sisters-in law, Rosemary and Lorraine Ackley, along with sisters-in-law, Linda Andrade and husband Joseph, Gwendolyn Pierce and Beverly Tillman and husband Steve; one aunt, Helen Ackley. He is predeceased by his brothers, Walter and James and sister, Patricia Corl. Bill has numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Bill will be missed forever by all of us who loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smile Train or the charity of your choice.
