David Ives Obituary

JUNE 10, 1942 - JANUARY 20, 2016
David Arthur Ives, 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. He was born in Johnson City, NY to A. Roger and LouAnna Ives, and grew up in Harpersville, NY. An ASU alum in Executive Management/Electrical Engineering, he was an innovator and pioneer in the establishment of Datapoint Corporation in San Antonio. He was a long-standing Rotarian with Oak Hills Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow, serving in the capacities of Club President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and the Club/District's Charitable/Scholarship Foundation Administrator for approximately 35 years with perfect attendance, including countless international Clubs. He also chaired Rotary RYLA conferences for youth. He strongly contributed to the eradication of polio worldwide. He also led Texas Shrimp Fest in San Antonio from its inception through conclusion. Other activities included being a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society, a Lee High School band parent, and member of the Hunters Creek Neighborhood Association. David was an avid bridge player who belonged to countless bridge clubs, an occasional poker stud, and he most likely had an opportunity to hear your child's Christmas wishes if you've lived in San Antonio for long "(wink*)". He was preceded in death by his absolute TrueLove, Diane Jeanette Peters Ives; his parents; his in-laws, Carl and Betty Peters; his brother-in-law, Frank Wicks; and a nephew, Kenneth Ives. Survivors include a daughter, Danielle Ives and husband Alex of Houston; a son, David Arthur Ives II and wife Angie of Lakewood, CO; 6 grandchildren, Alec, Aly, Aaron, and Aric Allen, and David and Allison Ives; a brother, Gary Ives and wife Kathy of Greene, NY; and 2 sisters, Gloria Wicks, also of Greene, and Donna Doyle and husband John of Pahrump, NV. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

David and Danielle,
We've known your parents since we moved into Hunters Creek back in 1988 and loved them both. They were truly a gift to this neighborhood. My oldest son sat on Santa's lap many times sharing his Christmas wishes and Santa miraculously knew everything about my son; he was a true gift to this world and we miss them both. Sincerely,

Bill and Marie Cooper

Not too many men are champions, gentle, unpresupposing, self deprecating, yet bright, wise, upbeat...but Dave Ives was one. He lived the Rotary Four Way Test every day.
I will miss him.

David was a long time friend of ours. We were classmates at Harpursville Central, my husband, Keith, and he started kindergarten together. Later on in the 70's we came together again in Arizona, when Diane and David helped us find a temporary home in Tempe. We were saddened to learn of his passing. We will miss his wry sense of humor and his deep, sincere laughter. Keith and Mary Hickling
