Mona Stewart Obituary
Mona Stewart, 75, born July 4, 1933, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, December 26, 2008. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin C. Stewart, son, Michael W. Shaffer, and her sister, Lois Korostynski. Survivors include her children; son, Gary Shaffer, and daughter, Sherry Sorbera and husband Michael, grandchildren; David Garcia, Jeremiah Sorbera, Brian Garcia, Jena Sorbera, and Chris Sorbera, Daniel Sorbera, and Timothy Sorbera, her sister; Mary Habovick, and brothers; Frank and Richard Field, and many nieces and nephews. She was very active in the Greater San Antonio Quilt Guild and the Bulverde Quilt Group. She was a master quilter, winner of many ribbons, and contributed many quilts to various charities. A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 8:30-10 am at FuneralCaring USA , 2200 NE Loop 410, San Antonio TX 78230 , followed by Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45.

I will never forget my family's summer trip to Aunt Mona's house many years ago. I am sorry that the word has lost a beautiful person so full of laughter and joy. I can still hear her infectious laughter and remember sampling jalapeno lollypops and other baked delights, as well as being fortunate enough to have her teach me and my sisters to make belts and purses out of leather. I'm so glad to have those memories. I'm looking forward to being reunited with Grandma Lena, Aunt Lois, Aunt Mona and Uncle Al in Heaven some day. God bless and keep you. Sherry, you and your family are in my prayers. Your mother was a wonderful quilter and her passion was certainly passed on to you. Her memory will live on in her quilts and each time you touch or see one you will feel your heart filling again with her love. May you have solace knowing she is with her loving father.
