Paul Heye Obituary

HEYE
Col. Paul F. Heye, USAF (Ret.), age 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 4, 2012. He was born in San Antonio in February 1941. Paul graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958 and later from Texas A&M University in 1962. He continued to be an avid Aggie, supporting his university and his four children whom also became Aggie graduates. Paul served in the United States Air Force for 29 years, retiring as commander of Air Force NEWS at Kelly Air Force Base. In 1976, he was the first American given Die Goldene Zeile award for journalism in Germany. He was dedicated to serving his country. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, Paul loved his family well. His life's other passion was his involvement in the Catholic Church. With many military moves, Paul volunteered in many parishes in many positions. He was ordained a Deacon in the Archdiocese of San Antonio on September 12, 1999, and served St. Brigid Catholic Church until his death. Paul truly lived his faith and blessed many lives. Paul was preceded in death by his father, William Heye, mother, Alpha Kopplin Heye, and cherished grandson Trey Heye. Paul is survived by his adoring wife of 50 years, Mary Catherine Dunn Heye; sons: Paul F. Heye, Jr., and his wife Mary Jo, John Heye and his wife Eileen, Jeff Heye and his wife Amy; daughter Amy Heye Dunlap and her husband Brett; grandchildren: Christopher, Thomas, Ian, and Nicholas Heye; Megan and William Bunsey, Abby Heye; Will, Matthew, and Ellie Heye; Grady, Delaney, and Connor Dunlap; brother Bill Heye and his wife Joan; sister Judy Free and her husband Granville; sister Joan Grandjean and her husband Gene; and many other loving family members and friends. An exceptional man, husband, father, son, Opa, brother, uncle, and friend, Paul will be missed often and cherished always. The blessings he brought to us will continue in our hearts.

Colonel Heye was my commander at AFNEWS. I was pleasantly surprised when he called me while I was in Korea on temporary duty. It was a pleasure when he pined my stripes on me. I still have the photo.

I will always remember how Paul ministered to my husband Ted and me at the time of Ted's passing. During those terrible five months Paul was always there at Ted's bedside with compassion and support. I felt so comforted when Paul was there when I couldn't be.
Everyone knew Paul was close to God by his example.
My heart goes out to you Mary Catherine and to your family. You are so loved and have my deepest sympathy.

We continue in our faith to know God is good and creates us to keep him company, he now has a kind and gentle giant to keep him company. My friend and brother Paul. Yoli and I are so thankful to Mary Catherine for allowing Paul to reflect Gods love to his Parish. Together magnifying love to all they came into contact with.

Paul was a dear friend as well as my first "boss" at Southwest Research Institute. He could always be counted on to be the calming voice at our project management work sessions and meetings. A big man with a gentle, peaceful demeanor. He will be missed dearly. Our prayers go out to all the Heye families.

To all of the Heye family, It is surreal to me that the brother of a friend of mine from high school would be 71. I went to IWHS with Joan, and, as strange as it seems, I have found myself thinking of those days we shared. I cannot say "I know how you feel", but I can send prayers and Angels to support you and to comfort you along this arduous journey. Although your path will be strewn with sad moments, it will also be layered with many happy memories of the days you spent with Paul. God always has a reason, and He has plans for Paul. He will be beside you for all the days you need Him, so look for one set of footprints, and lean on Him until you can, once again, stand tall and strong. And, when you least expect it, you will hear a laugh or feel a breeze, and know that God's newest angel is with you. God bless all of you. Joan, I am so sorry you have lost a brother, but, to Paul, he has just been found. Love to all, kc

Paul stood out, not just due to his stature, but because of his integrity and spiritual leadership at St. Brigid. His presence will continue to be felt in our midst. Our deepest sympathy to all of his family.

We join in prayers for Paul's family -- and for his peaceful passage to heaven. The Bakers crossed paths with Paul first in Germany and then again at Space Division in Los Angles, CA. I knew him to be a loyal friend, a leader, and a compassionate advocate for the military. A strong family man and always offering support. He will be missed - but his memory will not fade.

Saddened to learn of Paul's passing. We were classmates at Texas A&M. The Class of 1962 celebrated their 50th Year Class reunion last month. My condolence to the family.

Paul we will miss you very much. Miss your great big grin when you snagged a Bunco. Love from Terri, Bob and Heather
