Donald James Norton passed away May 26, 2014 in San Antonio after a protracted illness. He was born May 6, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald James Norton, Sr. and Estelle Casey Norton. When Donald was very young, the family moved to Davenport, Iowa and, subsequently, his widowed mother moved the family to Corpus Christi. The family remained there and Donald graduated from the Corpus Christi College-Academy. Donald attended college at Delmar College and Rice University. He then earned his D.D.S. at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston where he met and married Doris Chuberk. Donald served 2 years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps and afterwards maintained a private dental practice until his retirement.
Donald was an avid reader and was particularly interested in politics, history, and biography. He was a very devoted son, brother, husband, and father and gave selflessly to everyone. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Judith Carroll and Carol Stranger, both of Houston, and a son, Kevin Charles Norton of Dallas. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Norton, daughters Lucy Norton (spouse Margaret Joseph) and Deborah Norton all of San Antonio, Nancy Norton of Dallas, and a sister, Geraldine Koch, of Richmond, Virginia.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life is planned for August 23rd at 2 PM at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Planned Parenthood, 434 W. 33rd Street, New York, NY 10001 or the First Unitarian Universalist Church Endowment Fund, 7150 I 10 West, San Antonio, TX 78213.
