Chevis Truesdale Amick of Cotulla, Texas, and a long time San Antonio resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the age of 98. He was born and raised on a farm in Saluda County, South Carolina. After graduating from Newberry College, he joined the Air Force during WWII as an aviator, taking his flight training at Brooks AFB. He became a bomber pilot in the South Pacific flying 56 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and several air medals. After the war, he returned to San Antonio where he and his wife Clara owned and operated the San Antonio Trunk Co. for many years. He was a former mayor of Hill Country Village, and a past president of the San Antonio Executives Association. He was an avid outdoorsman, his passion being quail hunting behind his beloved bird dogs and was a past president of the San Antonio Bird Dog and Quail Club. He was also an avid golfer, playing his last round at age 97. He will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Clara and six brothers. He is survived by his son Tom Amick and wife Hazel, daughter Patricia Coffee and husband Kevin, sister Barbara Niven of Leesville, S.C., eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Mission Burial Park North on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 302 Center St., Cotulla, TX, 78014
