Chip Rich Obituary

RICH
Chip Rich, adored husband of Deb Rich and treasured father of Ellie and Kate Rich, passed suddenly and unexpectedly into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the age of 46. Born on October 5, 1966 in Alexandria, Virginia to Charles H. Rich, Jr. and Janet Rich, he spent most of his life in his beloved Colorado. He returned there as often as possible, even after moving to San Antonio. Chip had planned a career in law enforcement since his teens. He became an Explorer with the Lakewood Police Department in high school, and through college and law school worked as a park ranger. He attended Metro State College and the University Of Denver College Of Law. He began practicing law in the Denver area in 1993. He gave willingly to his community as an active member and President of the Englewood Rotary Club in Englewood, Colorado. In December 2002, Chip accepted a position at the Bexar County District Attorney's Office. He took great satisfaction in his work as a prosecutor, and spent ten years in various divisions of the DA's office, most recently as Chief of the DWI Task Force. A life-long Lutheran, Chip was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio. Chip loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter as a young man. He enjoyed hiking and camping in his leisure time. Chip was a loyal Denver Broncos fan, and also loved the San Antonio Spurs, attending games regularly with his family. His grandparents, Herbert and Helen Rockey and Charles and Elizabeth Rich, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Deborah Schlosberg Rich; daughters, Ellie and Kate Rich; parents, Chuck and Jan Rich of Lakewood, Colorado; brother, Mike Rich and his wife, Jen of Broomfield, Colorado; in-laws, Dick and Kathy Schlosberg; brother-in-law, Rich Schlosberg and his wife, Kelly; nieces, Emily and Melissa Schlosberg all of San Antonio; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough.

I cannot remember a family gathering I was at that Chip didn't have a smile on his face and a warm handshake to greet you. Chip was always kind and considerate of others and an adoring husband to Debbie and adoring father to his daughters. I will always admire his attributes as decent man. My thoughts and prayers are for Chip and his family. May God grant you peace.

I had the honor of working with Chip at Bear Creek Lake Park. Chip lit up any room with his great smile and funny jokes. You always knew Dave was not far behind whenever Chip was around. They were more than friends, they were brothers. Both of them made you laugh and smile at life. Even back then, Chip had a passion for the law and justice. He was studying to get into law school and was so excited about making a difference in life. What he didn't know is that he had already made a difference in allot of lives. The world was a better place with Chip. Our hearts are breaking at the loss. So, my prayers go out to the family and anyone that had the honor of knowing him. He was an amazing person that was a blessing in my life.

Chip was a true professional. He was an excellent trial lawyer who genuinely cared about his work and what it meant to the people of Bexar County. We have lost someone whose ability and dedication had few peers. He was always good to everyone, and it was my honor to have worked with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Gilbert C. Barrera, Jr.

I am so sorry your life ended so quick

November 9, 2012

I am so shocked of Mr. Richs' passing. I was a fellow juror that sat in a courtroom for a week and plus days. Such an impressionable man. Very intelligent and you could tell he took his position on the DWI Task Force very serious always pressing hard to get justice for the victims families. May you rest in peace Mr. Rich.

May God mend the hearts of your loved ones as they struggle to put the pieces together.

I met Chip when I started as a probation officer with Bexar County in 2002 in County Court #11. He had just started with the DA's office. We talked about loving Colorado, our families, and I remember thinking he almost seems "too nice" to work with criminals. I was wrong, he was a class act, who always had a smile on his face. The last time I saw him was October 27 at Walk like MADD. The last image I have of him was him leading the runners smiling. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and co-workers. God bless Chip.

My heart is hurting right now. He was one of my best buds, like a brother. Playing cops and robbers together. Then, Star Wars came out and we were on to the next saga in our lives. I am so sorry for what his kids and wife must be going through. Also, all our love to Chuck, Jan and Mike. I love you Chip.

November 8, 2012

Deb, my prayers and love goes to you and the girls at this time. I am sorry I can not be there in person for you, but I will be there in spirit. The Lord will take care of you....trust Him. Many BLessings to you and your family.

Not just a great guy with an infectious smile, but a passionate prosecutor with a pure soul. He was so proud of "his girls" & always happened to have his family Christmas photo on hand to show me his beautiful wife & daughters. His unconditional love for his girls shined through whenever he spoke of them. You are in our prayers.

I am thankful to have known Chip Rich. He was an incredibly generous person, with his time and his many talents, but most importantly, with his laughter. He had a brilliant sense of humor and freely shared it with others so as to brighten their day as well. Chip made the world a better place and is truly missed.

Chip was a man who had all the answers. He was a man who would drop what he was doing to help out a friend or co-worker. A guy who would go out of his way to tell you hi and then smile from ear to ear. The song "Gone to Soon" comes to mind because the world lost a great person, my prayers go out to his family, friends and co-workers.......
