Daniel Johnson Obituary
Daniel R. Johnson age 75 passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013, at his home in San Antonio, TX. Daniel was born on October 9, 1937 in Falls City, Nebraska. He lived most of his wonderful life in San Antonio. He enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard in December 1951 and served 3 years as a member of that unit. He left the Guard to enlist in the United States Air Force in October 1954, and attended Basic Training at Lackland AFB. After Basic Training, he was stationed at Chanute AFB IL., where he attended Air Weather School. In July 1959, he was transferred to the United States Air Force Security Service to receive training in Traffic Analysis. He was stationed in North Africa, Pakistan, The United Kingdom, Viet Nam and Japan. After serving 23 years, he retired at Kelly AFB, in San Antonio, TX. He received the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon; USAF NCO PME Graduation Ribbon; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his retirement, he enrolled at Southwest Texas University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business. Upon graduation, he went to work for the San Antonio Real Property Maintenance Agency. He worked there four years and then transferred to the Air Intelligence Agency where he retired in 1997. He was a very loving family oriented husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Gloria and Daniel traveled quite a bit and were initially married in Japan. They later celebrated their marriage vows in the Catholic Faith. He enjoyed American Football and Soccer and was All-Europe as a goalie. He also bowled and played golf for many years. He faithfully attended Blessed Sacrament Church where he made numerous friends and was very popular with the clergy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Mottsinger and David Johnson, sister-in-law Sr. Rose Denise Fuentes, grandson Ian Andrew Trub and granddaughter Nica Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria F. Trub Johnson, brother-in-law Federico Fuentes (CA), brother George Mackey (KS) and sons; Lawrence Trub and wife Florencia, James Trub and wife Cynthia and daughters; Natalie Johnson and Donna Koontz (TN). Grandchildren: Heather and Corey Swisher, Jennifer and Paul Warfield, Christopher and Rachel Trub, Lucy and Martin Gauna, Jennifer Esparza, Raquel and Roberto Orozco,Sara and Jeff Querbach and Sherry and Carlos Barrera. Great grandchildren: Ashley, Claire and Trey Barrera, Caroline and Juliette Warfield, Caden Trub, Sierra Withers, Martin and Justin Gauna, Charlie Esparza and Sofia Orozco. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 6, at 5:00 PM with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, March 7, at 9:15 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
