Dewey William Peace, Jr. M.D., 87, entered the gates to heaven on April 22 following a brief illness. Born on October 7, 1925 in Kingsville, Texas, he was the beloved son of Dr. D.W. Peace, Sr. and Minnie Howell Peace. His sister Mary Carolyn Peace Macovey predeceased him.
Dewey grew up in Bishop and Kingsville, Texas, and graduated from TMI in San Antonio in 1943. He graduated from The Rice Institute (Rice University) and completed his education at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston in 1951. He practiced medicine in Bishop and Kingsville and served in the US Navy. He retired as Captain, Medical Corps, USN then continued his career as a physician for the Texas Department of Health - Long Term Care Unit in San Antonio. He retired again in 1992 then moved to New Braunfels.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Nita Wilcox Peace, sons Dewey W. Peace III (Jackie) of Montgomery Village, Maryland and Sam (Sue) Peace of San Antonio. He is also survived by five Peace grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his step-children Nancy Rogers (Richard Lionberger) of Houston, Ann Whitis (Jim) of New Braunfels, Sara Kliewer (Ed) of San Antonio, and Joe Bill Harlan (Sharon Lemieux) of Kingsville, Texas, seven step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Other survivors include one cousin Bill Bonner of Allen, Texas, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
His family and friends remember his passion for classical music and rejoice that he can now hear the voices of angels. He was dedicated to his faith and his country.
A memorial service will be held at New Braunfels Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 27 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to EdenHill Communities, 631 Lakeview Blvd, New Braunfels, Tx 78130 or NB Presbyterian Church, 373 Howard Street, NB, Tx 78130.
