MCCAIN
Don McCain passed away on January 14, 2013 at the age of 79. He will be remembered as a gentle man of unwavering faith, loyal husband, amazing father, proud grandfather, tireless family supporter, champion of women and an advocate for those with Coronary Artery Disease. Don's quick wit, sense of humor, friendly nature, contagious smile and communication skills were trademarks endearing him to many. He kept everyone entertained with his uncanny sense of humor. Those of us blessed to share his life were continually amazed by his ability to tackle challenges with strength, optimism and joy. He was one of 4 children born to G.W. and Esther McCain in San Benito, Texas. Don attended San Benito High School and after serving in the U.S. Army, he attended St. Mary's University. Don was preceded in death by his sister Norma, brother Robert and his parents. Don will be forever lovingly remembered by his wife Marietta, daughters Donna McCain Milnor, Niki McCain Guenther and her husband Rick; granddaughters Elizabeth Terry and her husband John, Kim Cahoon, grandson Kody McCain Milnor, nephews Mark & Doug Stavinoha and many dear friends. Don reached daily into the depths of his soul and found the courage to make an effort to live a life filled with cheerfulness. In doing so he left us all with valuable lessons on how to handle challenges. When you remember Don, let it be with happy times. He has gone before us and those of us that love him know that he will be there one day to light our way to join him in that very special place he calls home. The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of South Texas Cardiovascular Group, especially Drs. Charles Rabinowitz, Charles Machell, and Umang Shah for their skillful medical care and concern over the past twenty nine years. Don benefited and his life was prolonged by research and advances in the field of Coronary Artery Disease. His deep appreciation prompted him to contribute his body to science; a noble and generous gift. His family takes great pride knowing his permanent legacy will be one of education, instruction and assistance to other families in need.
