Ida Kenny Obituary
Ida Ross Loman Kenny passed away September 19, 2012 after a long and fruitful life. She is now at peace with her loving husband Joseph Thomas Kenny. Ida was born March 26, 1920, in Refugio, TX from a long line of Gulf Coast pioneers. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Ida was an ardent senior rights activist in San Antonio. She served on the Governor's Committee on Aging and served for many years as a community leader for various senior and neighborhood organizations. After guiding all her children to college degrees, Ida earned both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, with Honors, in Communications from St. Mary's University. She was also a long time editor of a statewide senior newspaper and a radio host for a program on senior issues.
Ida was devoted to her family. She and Joseph raised seven children: Joseph Kenny, Jr.; John Kenny (Lynn); Mary Rose; Tim Kenny (Sara); Paul Kenny (Diane); Pat Kenny (Carol); and Anne Kenny Hayden. She has ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition, she will be missed by nieces, nephews, and numerous family friends. Visitation will begin Sunday at 5:00 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 P.M.
Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ida's name to St. Mary's University or to Christian Senior Services.
