Surrounded by his family James George Bliss, 69 of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Sunday September 1, 2013 in San Antonio Texas.
Jim was born on October 28, 1943 in Atwood Kansas to Sidney and Lorine Bliss. Jim was the eldest of 7 children Kay Langley , Elaine Burgess , Sandra Haydem, Doug Bliss, David Bliss, and Lyle Bliss. Following high school Jim joined the Navy and served on the USS Pandemus as a radioman.
Jim met the love of his life, Olga Ybarra and after 13 short days proposed and they were married August 22, 1965. They grew a family of 3 James, Jeanette, and Jennifer.
We will miss many things about Jim ....Grandpa's loud voice resonating from the stands as he cheered on his grandchildren at their games, the great hugs he shared as sending loved ones off on their journeys or saying goodnight, and the words of wisdom he would share to help friends through their days. His heart was open to friends and family and was the perfect example of a husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Olga Bliss, of San Antonio, Texas; son James G. Bliss Jr & wife Tracy of San Antonio , Texas; daughters Jeanette Beaty & husband Steve Beaty of Salem, Oregon, Jennifer Bliss of San Antonio, Texas. grandchildren Whispeny Dodd, Julia Beaty, Stephanie Beaty, Megan Bowling , Emily Bliss, Samantha Bliss, Tyler Bliss ; great grandchildren Shawn, Shianna, Shania, Hayley, and Landon.
Visitation will be held at Castle Ridge Mortuary located at 8008 Military Dr. West on September 5th 9am-7pm. Rosary to follow at 7pm at same location. A memorial Mass will be held at Resurrection of the Lord located at 7990 West Military Drive on September 6, 2013 at 12:30pm. Burial to follow at Fort Sam National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project woundedwarriorproject.org.
