Jeannette Newman Obituary

Jeannette Newman, a native San Antonian, attended Travis Elementary School, Mark Twain Junior High and graduated with honors as a member of the first class of Jefferson High School. She studied violin with Carl Venth at what was then Westmoreland College (now Trinity University) and won a four year scholarship to the Eastman Conservatory of Music in a statewide competition. Upon graduation from the Eastman Conservatory, she returned to San Antonio, attended Trinity University and earned a Masters Degree in Education. She was a charter member of the San Antonio Symphony under the direction of Max Reiter in the first violin section. She passed away in McAllen, Texas on Thursday, July 8, 2004 having moved there from San Antonio in March 2004. Jeannette was married to Albert H. Edelman with whom she had two children, Barry H. Edelman of San Antonio and Patricia (Patty) L. Fallek of McAllen. She is fondly remembered by her two children, their spouses Linda V. Edelman and Larry Fallek; five grandchildren, Les Edelman and his wife, Jelena, Andrew Edelman, Emily Edelman, Michael Fallek and his wife, Heather, Shari Fallek Coats and her husband, Steve, as well as three great-grandchildren, Marko and Stephan Edelman and Chloe Fallek. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Bella Erlich; husbands Albert H. Edelman and Isadore J. (Jack) Newman; brother Morris Erlich of San Antonio and sister Lillian Alaynick of New Orleans. After retirement from public school teaching, Jeannette devoted herself to charitable activities, and was a member of many musical, charitable and educational groups.
