Karen Ruth Hansen Katz

Karen Katz passed away unexpectedly on June 21 in San Antonio, TX. Born in La Porte, Indiana, to Floyd and Geraldine Hansen, Karen is predeceased by her parents and brother, Roger. She is survived by her loving husband David; son Tony; stepchildren Alex (Kelly) and Patti (Bob); brother Wayne Hansen (Darlene); niece Heather Hansen; nephew Kevin Hansen (Ginger); countless other beloved family members, friends, and former students.
A proud graduate of Indiana University, Karen received her BA and MAT degrees in Spanish and French. She was an inspiring teacher for 37 years beginning her career in Bloomington, Indiana, and serving 26 years at Alamo Heights High School. Karen was an intelligent and innovative teacher. She taught Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish for a number of years and became a presenter and reader for the Spanish AP exams. She was a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Friendship Bridge- San Antonio Circle.
A memorial service is planned for Wed., July 10, 2013, at 1:30 PM in the Garden Chapel at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations in Karen's memory to Friendship Bridge, an organization that provides micro-credit to indigenous women in Guatemala, a cause dear to her heart.
