Martha Magdelena Mechler Bippert, age 92, of Castroville, TX, passed away on March 14, 2011 in Castroville. She was born July 11, 1918 in western Bexar County to the late Henry John and Josephine Zinsmeyer Mechler. Martha was preceded in death by brother, Herman Mechler and his wife Mabel; brother, Henry Lee Allen Mechler; sister, Elsie Mechler Tschirhart and husband Alvin; daughter-in-law Carolyn Bippert; Great Granddaughter Kelli Lynn Bippert; and special niece Norma Verstuyft; Survivors include her husband of more than 73 years, Joseph Harold Bippert; sons, David J. Bippert and his wife Nancy, John Henry Bippert and his wife Nancy, Dennis H. Bippert and his wife Doris, all of Castroville; brother, William Mechler and his wife Agnes of Sabinal; sister-in-law, JoAnn Mechler of San Antonio; special niece Elrine Zuercher of La Coste; 11 Grandchildren, Kevin Bippert, Roxanne Melton, Kelly Bippert, Shannon Rothe, Suzanne Trevino, Dianne Bippert, Shane Bippert, Eugene Bippert, Denice Notzon, Tammi Masters, and Lance Bippert; 30 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Granddaughter, with 2 more arriving soon, and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was a life time member of St. Louis Catholic Church, a member of St. Ann's Society and the Hermann Sons Castroville Lodge #71. For many years she worked as a waitress at Curly's Cafe in Castroville, but most of her life she was a homemaker. She worked on her parents dairy farm and then along side her husband on their dairy farm. She was an avid quilter, creating many quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to crochet, sew and play pitch with her friends. The Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home will be open for Visitation on Thursday, Mar. 17, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, Mar. 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Friday, Mar. 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment will follow the Rosary at St. Louis Catholic Garden Mausoleum. The family suggests memorials be given in Martha's memory to the Medina Valley EMS or St. Louis Catholic School. Visit www.tondre-guinn.com
