HESS
Funeral services for Richard Hess, 84 of San Antonio, formerly of Lexington, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington with Gary McManus officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 6 of Lexington and Masonic graveside services will be conducted by the Lexington Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Hess passed away the evening of Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Audie L. Murphy V.A. Hospital in San Antonio.
Richard Paul Hess was born on June 13, 1928 in Abilene, Texas to Richard & Alma (Casey) Hess. His childhood was spent in Belton and New Braunfels where he attended New Braunfels High School. Richard served his country in the United States Marine Corps and received his Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1952 having obtained the rank of Private. Richard was united in marriage to Helen Proske on October 17, 1954 in Lexington, Texas. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Richard Michael, Paul Gerome and Philip Mark. Following Helen's death in 1976, Richard married Dorothy Dotson on March 30, 1981 in Caldwell, Texas.
He was employed with Missouri Pacific Railroad as an agent and train master in many cities across Texas. He retired as an officer after 37 years. Richard was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church in Lexington. He enjoyed several hobbies including playing dominoes and country western dancing.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Hess; his father, Richard Hess; his wife, Helen Marie Hess; his grandson, Brandon Michael Hess and his step-daughter, Lou Ella Dotson.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Hess of San Antonio; his three sons, Michael Hess & his wife, Kristi of Lexington, Gerome Hess of Lexington and Philip Hess of Lexington; his four grandchildren, Christian Hess, William Hess, Walker Hess and Lauren Hess all of Lexington; his step-daughter, Mary Jane McCall of San Antonio as well as several other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Hess, Gerome Hess, Philip Hess, Christian Hess, William Hess and Walker Hess.

The Hess family would like to thank the staff of the Audie L. Murphy V.A. Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville V.A. KTCC 1 (Home of the Brave) for the excellent care given to Mr. Hess for the past five years.
