Sara Stark

STARK
Sara Jordan Stark died on April 1, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born in Panama City, Florida, but grew up and graduated high school in Dothan, Alabama. After attending Auburn University, she returned to Dothan where, in 1942, she met and married Lieutenant Robert F. Stark of Augusta, Georgia. She began her many experiences as an Air Force wife in Ft. Meyers, Florida, where their two daughters were born. After the war Sara and her daughters sailed on a troop ship to join her husband in Japan during the Occupation. When the Korean War began she worked as a volunteer in the Army Hospital in Nagoya, Japan, helping incoming wounded from Korea. After several assignments in the States, in 1957 she and her girls once again sailed on a troop ship to join her husband in Taiwan where she was very active in Red Cross. After a tour at Kelly AFB, she accompanied her husband to West Berlin for three exciting years and many European adventures. Although always active in military Wives' Clubs, while in Germany she proudly served as president of the Berlin American Wives Club of Berlin. After their Berlin tour, Sara and Bob returned to Kelly AFB where Sara served as the 1970 President of the Kelly Wives Club. Called to serve overseas once again, Bob and Sara spent two years in Crete, Greece where she served as Honorary President of the Iraklion Wives Club. In 1973 they once again returned to Kelly AFB where Bob retired and they have called San Antonio home ever since. Sara and Bob moved to Air Force Village II in 2000 where Sara enjoyed water aerobics, line dancing and bridge; served on several committees, as Chairman of the DRAC, and as a member of the Resident's Council; and volunteered in the Health Care Center. Although she lost Bob in 2009, Sara loved life at the Village and the many friends she met there, especially over the past few years at the AFV Liberty House. She is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Sandra E. Stark (PhD) of Madison, Wisconsin and Barbara "Bobbi" S. Coombs of San Antonio who is married to retired USAF LtCol John E. Coombs, and one niece, Gail Stelling, of Hacketstown, NJ. In addition to her beloved husband of 67 years, Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Henry Jordan and her only sibling, brother, Henry Jordan, Jr.
