Stephen Vollbrecht Obituary

CMSgt Stephen Dean Vollbrecht, USAF Ret., passed away on March 1, 2002 at the age of 50 after a valiant battle against cancer. His distinguished 29-year military career garnered him the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and other diverse decorations and ribbons. He was a Distinguished Graduate at the NCO Leadership School and the NCO Academy, and held Associate's degrees in Emergency Medical Technology and Personnel Administration, a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Management, and a Master's degree in Management. He served in Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan and Texas, as well as the Marshall Islands, Germany, Holland and Cuba. He is survived and loved always by his wife of 32 years, Doreen; sons, Stephen Scott and wife Lori, and David Keith and wife Kristin; grandsons, Evan and Connor; father, Herbert Vollbrecht; brother, Frank Vollbrecht; sister, Sharon Olson, and his greatest friend and colleague, Milton Robert Fields, III. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Schertz Funeral Home followed by Interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors. Public Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 3, 2002, and from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, March 4, 2002 with the family receiving visitors from 4:00 to 8:30 P.M. Monday evening. An Air Force Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Chandler's End-of-Life Care, 1502 Howard Street, San Antonio, TX 78212, or VistaCare Family Hospice, 5815 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, TX 78228. Schertz Funeral Home.
